4 Weeks And 5 Rulings That May Change The U.S.

Justices will release decisions on some of the most controversial social issues in the U.S. over the next four weeks.

  • Affirmative Action: Can colleges continue to consider race a factor in admissions?
  • Voting Rights Act: Should states with a history of discrimination still be subject to federal oversight of elections?
  • Same-Sex Marriage: Two cases on the constitutionality of same-sex marriage — the federal Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8.
  • Patenting Genes: Can a company own a “product of nature” in the same way it can own a human-made invention?

All those rulings will have a profound effect on U.S. culture and politics.

But a new study says this court has already had a profound but less noticed effect on the U.S.

According to the Minnesota Law Review, this court has been more friendly to business than any court since World War II.
