What The U.S. Knew About Tamerlan Tsarnaev

The CIA pushed to have one of the suspected Boston Marathon bombers placed on a U.S. counter-terrorism watch list more than a year before the attacks.

U.S. officials tell The Washington Post that Russian authorities contacted the CIA in the fall of 2011 and raised concerns that Tamerlan Tsarnaev was seen as an increasingly radical Islamist who could be planning to travel overseas.

Tsarnaev was killed last week in a confrontation with police – months after the FBI closed its probe into Tsarnaev.

Tsarnaev’s younger brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, is in custody at a Boston hospital, and has been charged in the bombings.
