President Bush: Off The Radar, But Keeping Busy

On Thursday, President George W. Bush will return to his former stomping grounds for the first time in two years to see his portrait unveiled at the White House.

But what else has he been up to since finishing his presidency?

Wayne Slater of the Dallas Morning News says Bush is spending a lot of time working on his library.

So far, the former president has raised more than $300 million for his library, which is expected to open next year on the grounds of Southern Methodist University.

He is also publishing a new book this summer outlining a strategy for economic growth.

And yes, he’s still mountain biking.

Earlier this month he took part in the Warrior 100, a 100-kilometer bike ride, with 30 wounded veterans.

Slater says Bush takes part in several veterans events, often just dropping by veteran centers unexpectedly.

And while he has not been as active on the speaking circuit as former President Bill Clinton, Bush did manage to rack up about $15 million in speaking fees during his first two years out of office alone.
