Kentucky Church Becomes Center For Tornado Relief

Snow covers a damaged truck after Friday's tornado in Marysville, Ind. (AP)

Several inches of wet snow are complicating relief efforts in tornado-stricken Indiana and Kentucky, where deadly tornadoes struck on Friday. So far 39 people in five states were killed by storms that tore down power lines and destroyed homes and businesses.

Brother Tommy Tapscott, associate pastor at First Baptist Church, East Bernstadt, Kentucky, says his church has become a center of relief efforts, but now they’re having to hold off on distributing some supplies such as bedding, because people who’ve lost homes have no place to put them. Now his church is taking in things like life insurance policies.

“They are actually bringing them into our church, we’re actually locking them up in file cabinets with their names on them so they have that stuff in a protected place,” he told Here & Now‘s Robin Young.
