Listener Letters: You Say Osawatomie, I say Osa-WAH-toe-mee

We heard from many listeners after our recent stories about shadow work, Walmart’s expansion in China and the pronunciation of Osawatomie, Kansas.

We were talking about Osawatomie when President Obama made a speech there last week. But a number of listeners wrote, called and Tweeted to say that we got the pronunciation of it all wrong. Problem is, no one could agree on the correct way to say it!

We finally got in touch with a woman named Janine, at Osawatomie City Hall. She said the correct pronunciation is: “oh-suh-WAH-toe-mee.”
