Police Promise ‘Light Presence’ After Clash With Occupy Oakland Protesters

Protesters stage a sit in at Frank Ogawa Plaza, Wednesday, in Oakland, Calif. (AP)

The mayor of Oakland, Calif. is promising a “light police presence” for the next few days after officers used tear gas to break up protests there on Tuesday.

That same day, an Iraq war veteran who had joined the protest was critically injured from a head wound that some witnesses say was caused by a tear gas canister lobbed by police.

And the Oakland Police Department has told protesters they aren’t allowed to spend the night at the camp.
