As events unfold in Libya, Moammar Gadhafi’s children have increasingly taken center stage, speaking publicly in support of the regime and according to leaked diplomatic cables, privately jockeying to succeed their father.

At least two sons command personal armies, including the country’s best trained and armed, Brigade 32, which is believed to be behind some of the most brutal attacks against demonstrators. Another son, Mutassim Gaddafi, once plotted a coup against his father and now serves as National Security Adviser.

And Gadhafi’s only daughter Ayesha, is a glamorous lawyer who served on the defense teams for both Saddam Hussain and for the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at President Bush.  We take a close look at the Gadhafi family with Max Fisher, international editor for the Atlantic.com.
